I thought about buying this months ago but hubby complained it would be poor quality, mess up internet and waste of $.
I got the Roku because I had Netflix and an antenna which started delivering less consistent signal. There is a lot of content for music lovers with concerts and band interviews. There are even FREE movie channels (while there are commercials, they are a lot less than on regular television).
Most are free, but some are paid content, most with minimal price tags.
Quickly, my history: I have been in media sales for 20 years, owned a movie store for two, and currently work at a TV station. I'd been thinking about buying this product for a while.
I finally decided to buy as XMas gift to myself, why did I ever listen to him! I love it, worth every penny, plus we are saving money on direct TV bills.
I've read other reviews that state the basic Roku SD is not capable of playing Amazon content, but that's just not true.
I don't like the others in their genre, so I click NEXT a few times and Pandora slaps my hand. Within a minute my online cue appeared on the screen. Unlike my Blu-Ray player that only allows me to see my Netflix instant cue, the Roku actually lets me search, browse and pick movies on the spot without my computer. Next, I associated my Roku with my Amazon account which will allow me to rent movies with a push of a button.
I've watched Netflix on my laptop and the quality was pretty poor but finally decided to give this device a try after reading the reviews. First-simple set up just plug into your TV and follow directions We are using it on a wireless internet connection and the quality is the same as a dvd movie or what you watch on your regular TV. No pausing in the picture like with direct TV when it's storming outside, no glitches or static, just a nice normal picture.
I have had my Roku for quite some time now and I am considering cutting the cord from my satellite service and saving 0 a month! We've been a netflix user for a year or more and recently decided to cut out our direct TV movie package (HBO, Cinemax, etc) which we never watched and was costing us over per month.
How about: the picture ROCKS, never freezes, and looks AWESOME! It may stump you at first, because after you become a FREE member it asks you your favorite artist. Having a Netflix account is far cheaper than cable or satellite for people like me who only want to watch a show now and then.
